Demonstrator Project TOFPET2 ASIC - High Performance ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) for Time-of-Flight PET (Positron Emission Tomography - medical imaging modality of reference in cancer detection), funded by PETsys Electronics SA, PO Regional Lisboa (Lisbon Region's Operational Program), PORTUGAL 2020 - Sistema de Incentivos a Investigação e Desenvolvimento Tecnológico (PT 2020) and FEDER (European Fund for Regional Development) - European Comission (Projecto Demonstrador 17665).
The aim of the project TOFPET2 ASIC (April 2016 - December 2017), is the laboratorial test, the wafer mask production and the real market evaluation of a new integrated circuit of high density and performance in CMOS 110 nm technology for the amplification and digitization of the signals of Silicon Photomultipliers in ToF-PET (Positron Emission Tomography with Time-of-Flight capability) applications, as well as in other applications (radiation monitoring, safety, life sciences Instrumentation).
ToF-PET is a new paradigm in medical PET image allowing an order of magnitude gain in cancer detection sensitivity. PETsys Electronics SA develops and markets Electronic and Detection modules for ToF-PET based in the TOFPET ASIC resulting from a R&D project. Based on the experience with the existing R&D prototype, and after having designed the new ASIC version (TOFPET2) improving its performance and robustness, conditions are created to lead the world market of electronic systems for ToF-PET, through the TOFPET2 ASIC.
