PETsys Electronics develops Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) designed for radiation-detector applications, including PET and SPECT scanners as well as large-scale detector systems used in particle, nuclear, and astrophysics experiments. Built using 110 nm and 130 nm CMOS technologies, these ASICs can efficiently read and digitize fast light signals from modern photosensors such as SiPMs, MCPs, and others. Their very low noise and low power consumption make them ideal for large, high-performance detection systems. Each ASIC integrates advanced components—including high-precision TDCs and ADCs—to deliver excellent timing and amplitude measurements. High-speed digital output links ensure seamless integration with high-performance data-acquisition systems.

Electronic readout systems

PETsys Electronics provides a complete set of electronic boards for reading out radiation detectors, designed for easy integration into large systems scalable to several tens of thousands of channels, such as those used in PET scanners. The electronics offer a wide range of functions, including frontend signal conditioning and amplification, pulse discrimination, and time and amplitude measurement. Integrated DC-DC converters and regulators supply all voltages required to power the TOFPET2 ASICs and the photo-sensors from a single power-supply line. Combined with the PETsys Electronics proprietary firmware and open-source software, the full readout system enables the acquisition of very high-rate digital data originating from multiple ASICs into a DAQ computer.

PET Detector Modules

PETsys Electronics provides complete Detector Modules for PET scanners. These modules are based on scintillation crystals (LYSO or BGO) coupled to Silicon Photomultipliers, with configurations that can include light sharing and/or double readout. Each Detector Module integrates low-noise, low-power electronics for detector biasing, pulse conditioning, time and amplitude measurement, and digital readout. High-speed digital links for clock and synchronization distribution, data readout, and frontend configuration enable easy integration into high-performance data-acquisition systems.

Medical Applications

The readout systems and detector modules from PETsys Electronics support flexible and straightforward assembly of PET scanners with varying scope, geometry, and performance requirements. A key common element is the use of Silicon Photomultipliers, which support cost-effective, compact, and high-performance PET systems with outstanding timing performance. Applications ranging from large whole-body systems to small, high-resolution scanners, using detectors with depth-of-interaction (DoI) capability. Time-of-Flight (TOF) capability provides substantial sensitivity gains in whole-body scanners. PETsys Electronics firmware and software modules also allow for filtering based on time, energy, and multiplicity, improving the handling of high incoming data rates.

High-Energy Physics Applications

The readout systems provided by PETsys Electronics are also well suited for applications in particle physics, nuclear physics, and astrophysics experiments. They are particularly appropriate for SiPM-based detectors—such as calorimeters and time-of-flight detectors—thanks to their excellent timing performance, low noise, and low power consumption.
